WHAT: Audio Description and Alt Text: Making your visual content accessible
WHO: Sarah Sims, Director of Visitor Engagement and Accessibility, Missouri Historical Society, and Abbie Diaz, Director of Education, Wisconsin Maritime Museum
FORMAT: Webinar

Museums are highly visual places. Engaging with our “stuff” – art, artifacts, etc. typically requires that visitors are able to observe with their eyes. So how can we make cultural institutions and all the knowledge, meaning, and opportunities they hold accessible to our visitors and would be visitors who are blind or who have low vision? Join Abbie Diaz of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and Sarah Sims of the Missouri Historical Society for a lunchtime webinar that will outline two tools museums can use to increase access to visual content: Alt text and Audio Description. They’ll give a overview of each tool, describe uses for each in the museum setting, outline a brief “how-to”*, and share resources for where and how to learn more.

*Please note that this webinar should not be used as a substitute for professional training in Audio Description.
