August Lunch with NEMA

WHEN:  Wednesday, August 28, 2019, Noon- 1pm
WHAT: Understanding Public Thinking on Equity
WHO: Jess Moyer, Associate, Research Interpretation & Application, FrameWorks Institute & Hannah Pickard, NNOCCI Program Manager, New England Aquarium
FORMAT: Webinar

The task of developing a communications strategy doesn’t need to be a guessing game. Museum professionals, advocates, educators, and others working to engage the public are faced with constant questions about what to say, or not say, as well as when and how to say it — and the FrameWorks Institute uses rigorous social science to arrive at answers.

Join Hannah Pickard of the New England Aquarium and Jessica Moyer of the FrameWorks Institute to hear about the NNOCCI community, which their organizations partnered to launch in 2009. NNOCCI is a network of interpreters at zoos, aquariums, museums, and other informal learning sites around the country, who are using evidence-based communication tools to shift the national conversation on climate change — in a way that builds public understanding, fosters a sense of hope, and motivates policy support as well as community action at many levels.

The presentation will conclude by offering the NEMA community some tested framing strategies they can adopt in their own communications. These will be focused on how to talk about social disparities and to build the public’s understanding of structural inequities — including how we can work together to address them.
