Museum Profile
Amesbury Carriage Museum & Industrial History Center
Formed in 1986, the Amesbury Carriage Museum is a 501(c)(3) history organization in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Our mission is to champion the history of Amesbury industry and people. We strive to do that by researching local history and offering programs and events for adults and families.
With a membership of almost 250 and growing, the museum is governed by a Board of Directors and a small permanent staff.
Set in Amesbury’s historic Upper Millyard, the Industrial History Center is our new venue dedicated to honoring the city’s industrial history. With construction completed in 2021, the Center offers programs that serve families, schools, and the community. The IHC is a vital addition to downtown, located in historic Mill 2 in Amesbury’s Upper Millyard.
The Community Is Our Campus. Most museums are buildings with objects in them. We’re a bit different. Although we use the Industrial History Center for exhibits and programs, we consider the entire city of Amesbury as an artifact. Many of our programs explore the nearby built environment as a way to discover our industrial past.
