Museum Profile
Bowdoin College Museum of Art
Welcome to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. With a collection of more than 20,000 works of art from around the world, made from antiquity to the present day, the Museum is a destination for visitors from near and far. Its rich history stretches back to 1811, when James Bowdoin III donated his painting and drawing collection to the College. Located in the Walker Art Building—designed by Charles F. McKim in 1894 and sensitively expanded in 2007 by Machado & Silvetti—the Museum offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions and programs that are open to the public free of charge.
