We are located at arguably the most important site in the American Industrial Revolution, the Francis Cabot Lowell Mill, home of the Boston Manufacturing Company. Founded in 1813 by Francis Cabot Lowell and partners who later became known as the Boston Associates, the Boston Manufacturing Company was the first modern industrial corporation, and the first fully integrated factory in the world. At our Museum, we tell the story of the Boston Associates, America's first industrial dynasty, who spearheaded the rapid growth and development of the textile industry, and related infrastructure, in 19th century New England. Our collection includes an eclectic array of primarily mechanical artifacts from many famous regional manufacturers, including a strong collection of Waltham Watch Company watches and early watchmaking machinery.
