The Forbes House Museum encompasses the history of four generations of the Forbes family and their domestic staff, from 1833 when the house was built, to 1962 when the last Forbes resident passed away and the house became a museum.

The house itself is a National Historic Landmark and a beautiful example of Greek Revival Style architecture. The interior reflects more exotic and decorative style influences dating to the late 1800's when the house was renovated and enlarged. The art, artifacts and furniture on display illustrate life in Victorian America and treasures from the American China trade.

The last resident of the house was an ardent admirer of President Lincoln. For that reason, the museum also holds an extensive collection of Lincoln and Civil War artifacts and memorabilia, including an exact replica of the log cabin in which Abraham Lincoln was born.
