Museum Profile
Forbes House Museum
The Forbes House is a Greek Revival style mansion built in 1833 by Isaiah Rogers. It sits on 6.5 acres of land, overlooking Governor Hutchinson's field toward the Boston city skyline. A one-hour guided tour takes visitors through four generations of family history. Brothers Captain Robert Bennet Forbes and John Murray Forbes feature prominently in the tours, as well as the last family member to live in the house, Mary Bowditch Forbes, who died in 1962. The Forbeses were a prominent Boston Brahmin family whose entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors reached well beyond New England.
