Museum Profile
Historical Society of Old Yarmouth
The mission of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth is to preserve, promote and protect the history of the Town of Yarmouth, MA, founded in 1639. The society maintains three separate collections: museum, library and archives, and photographs, housed in historic buildings on a 50-acre campus off Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. The Captain Bangs Hallet House is the only 19th century sea captain’s home on Cape Cod regularly open to visitors for docent-led tours. The archives of local historical documents and nearly 3,000 images of the town are stored in the Gorham Cobbler Shop. The Kelley Chapel is the site of special events and is available for wedding rentals. The society offers special events, educational programs for local schools, historic talks, walks on its nature trails and special exhibits in the Captain Bangs Hallet House as well as participating in annual open house tours.
