The stately 1806 Federal style house, tells the story of three prominent families; from a French and Indian War captivity story to the travels of Horatio Colony II, descendent of one of Keeneā€™s historic families. The old-time New England home is filled with original family furnishings and fabulous collections, which offer a gracious view of a vanishing lifestyle of culture, refinement and travel. This forms a rich backdrop for antique oriental rugs, family portraits, landscape paintings, tall clocks, high boys, writing desks replete with collections of elegant writing accouterments, and far more to delight the eye. The furnishings span from 18th through late 19th century, giving
the house a warm, eclectic look of refinement and grace.
The Horatio Colony Nature Preserve, has 645 acres of woodlands, streams, and upland swamps are open to the public daily from dawn to dusk for nature study and recreation. Five miles of trails with numbered stops that point out plant communities, geological features, and historical ruins, are located across the preserve.
