Museum Profile
Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain is Maine's best-known Civil War hero. In addition to leading the 20th Maine on Little Round Top in the Battle of Gettysburg, Chamberlain was a four-term governor of Maine and president of Bowdoin College, which lies just across the street from the Chamberlain Museum. Chamberlain lived in this Brunswick home for most of his adult life, and the museum has many artifacts of his home life with wife Fanny, his Civil War service (including his original Medal of Honor), and his later years in Augusta and at Bowdoin. The house is also architecturally fascinating, having been moved, raised, and expanded by Chamberlain over the years.
