Immortalized in Louisa May Alcott’s beloved classic, Little Women, Orchard House (circa 1690) is most noted for being where the groundbreaking novel was written and set in 1868. A visit to the house provides heartwarming accounts of the talented Alcott family, who were also tireless advocates for social justice, creativity, and individuality. Their progressive legacy is preserved and nurtured through award-winning guided tours, unique educational programs, and lively living history events offered year-round.

Orchard House also had a distinguished history long before the Alcotts and played an integral role in the development of the only truly American philosophy, Transcendentalism. Bronson Alcott’s Concord School of Philosophy (circa 1879), one of the most successful 19th Century adult education centers, remains on the grounds as a testament to intellectual idealism.
