Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden
Built in 1763, the Moffatt-Ladd House overlooks the Piscataqua River and is one of America’s finest Georgian urban merchant estates. William Whipple, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, lived here throughout the Revolution. William and his enslaved servant Prince Whipple were both Revolutionary veterans and Prince was a signer of the 1779 Petition of Freedom. The estate also includes an extensive Colonial Revival garden and a horse chestnut tree planted in 1776 by Whipple after returning from Philadelphia.
