A Great American House Designed by A Great American Writer

We offer tours of the house and gardens, a Backstairs Tour, and our popular Ghost Tour. There are no velvet ropes and stanchions, instead we invite our visitors to sit and interact with the rooms. Interpretive exhibits throughout the house explore Wharton’s life, her humanitarian efforts, literary legacy, and lives of the servants.

In addition to being a house with a story to tell, we are also a cultural center, partnering with over 40 local organizations to present lectures, dramatic readings, theater, music, storytelling, workshops, outdoor sculpture, films, and literary panels. Be sure to check out our Calendar of Events.

The Mount is located in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. We are down the road from Tanglewood in Lenox, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, and a scenic 30 minute drive from Mass MoCA in North Adams.
