The Natick Historical Society celebrates our community's rich history, from its origins as the most successful Massachusetts "Praying Indian Plantation" to its "Oldtown" days made famous by Harriet Beecher Stowe, through to the important center of culture and commerce in the MetroWest region that it is today. The organization had its start in 1870, making it one of the oldest such groups in New England. Today, the Natick Historical Society carries forth the legacy made by people who loved learning and loved their community. The stories of local life from pre-history until today are what we share through our collections. You can see Native American tools and crafts, household goods and clothing used by Natickites in decades past, and evidence of their commercial, military and civic ventures. We proudly tell why Natick is “Home of Champions;” show the tools used by this successful Shoe Town and belongings of its famous cobbler, Vice President Henry Wilson; display the 17th century pulpit desk made by Natick Indians for minister Daniel Takawambpait; and keep an excellent example of the world-famous Bible that John Eliot translated into Algonquin.
