The Oakham Historical Association was established in 1899--initially meetings were held in a private home, then from 1908-1994 at the Fobes Memorial Library. In 1994 the present museum was donated to the Association by its owner Jeff Young.
Since that time, members have spent countless hours cataloging thousands of documents, photographs, books and maps, many which date back to the 1800's.
Members also devote many hours organizing a variety of events. Recent ones include an annual guided walking tour of Oakham center for 5th grade students, antique appraisal days, annual town wide yard sale, Coldbrook Springs walk, house tours of historically interesting Oakham homes and fireside chats at the Fobes library.
The Association has published two about different eras in Oakham history.
Regular meetings are held on the third Wed. of the month, with a work meeting on the first Thursday. The museum is open to the public the fourth Sunday from May through Oct. and by appointment. A newsletter is published quarterly and sent to all members.
Our web site is www.Oakhamhistory.com.
The Association's purpose is to preserve as much as Oakham's history as possible.
