The Stonington Historical Society serves to preserve, interpret, and celebrate the history of Stonington and invites visitors to two seasonal properties in Stonington. The Old Lighthouse Museum served as a beacon over Stonington Village for nearly 50 years from 1840-1889 and serves as a museum of Stonington's history since 1925. 8 rooms of exhibits including maritime trades, steamships, railroads, and colonial artifacts. The Captain Nathaniel Palmer House is a National Historic Landmark and was built as the home to the discoverer of Antarctica. Once called Pine Point, the historic home is open seasonally for guided tours and other special events.
