On April 18, 1775, two lanterns were hung from the steeple of the Old North Church, launching what would become the American Revolutionary War. Signaling the departure of British regulars "by sea," the two lanterns have come to represent the resolve and ingenuity of the American spirit.

Today, Old North welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to learn about the history and values of Boston's early revolutionaries.

Founded in 1722, Christ Church in the City of Boston, known to all as the Old North Church, is Boston’s oldest surviving church building and most visited historical site.
