Portsmouth Historical Society (PHS), founded in 1917, is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit devoted to introducing, interpreting and stimulating the study of Portsmouth history, art & culture. PHS operates three facilities: the John Paul Jones House & Garden, open Memorial Day through Columbus Day; the Discover Portsmouth Welcome Center and our main galleries & exhibition space - open April 1 through December 23 daily from 10am-5pm.
