Shaw Mansion, built by Captain Nathaniel Shaw in 1756, and war office for Connecticut’s navy during the Revolution – was sold to the New London County Historical Society by the Perkins family in 1907. The Mansion has hosted George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette. The is a Museum, Archive, and headquarters of the society. Behind the Mansion is one of the 14 historic gardens in Connecticut.
