Built in 1747 for Royal Governor William Shirley, and later the home of Governor William Eustis, the Shirley-Eustis House has stood witness to the tumultuous issues of the French and Indian Wars, the American Revolution and Manifest Destiny in the 1820s. Once a sprawling estate of 33 acres, it now sits majestically in Roxbury with its beautiful gardens and historic fruit orchards. It remains the most imposing and best preserved of the four standing colonial governors' homes in the United States.
