The Springfield Museums offer access to five world-class museums, including The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum, two Art Museums, Science Museum, History Museum and the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, all under a single admission. There is something for everyone to enjoy from dinosaurs to motorcycles, classical sculptures to modern art, and Seuss, Seuss, and more Seuss. We offer dedicated spaces for hands-on activities that engage creativity in the sciences and the arts. Each week brings new guided activities and events, lectures and gallery talks, planetarium presentations, and classes for children and adults. To make your visit even better, we offer free parking, beautiful landscaping, a cafe, and a Museum Stores with a wide range of affordable and fun merchandise.
Founded in 1857, The Springfield Museums are one of the earliest museums systems in the country. The consortium consists of five museums plus the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, all centrally located on one campus in the heart of downtown Springfield, MA.
The George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum (1896) is a Victorian-era collector museum filled with paintings, Asian decorative art, weaponry and armor, and Islamic tapestries.
The Springfield Science Museum (1899) features live animal exhibitions, dinosaur skeletons, Native American and African artifacts, and the Seymour Planetarium. Coming soon, The Smithsonian Spark!Lab (Fall 2019).
The Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts (1933) boasts works by Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keeffe, Claude Monet, plus world-renowned print collections from Japan and by Currier & Ives.
The Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History (2009) features Springfield-built Indian Motocycles, Rolls-Royces, and historic firearms by Smith & Wesson.
The Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden (2002), includes bronze sculptures of beloved Seuss characters in honor of Theodor Geisel, who was born and raised in Springfield.
The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum (2017), the newest museum on the Quad, is devoted to Springfield native Theodor Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss!
The Springfield Museums was awarded full accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums in 2013 and is a Smithsonian Affiliate.
