Former director of MIT’s List Visual Arts Center (1999-2011), Jane Farver, passed away on April 29, 2015. Through the course of her distinguished 12-year tenure, Jane contributed greatly to the vibrant life of MIT’s arts community on campus, in Boston and internationally. She collaborated with a wide-range of artists to create groundbreaking contemporary art exhibitions at the List and commissioned major works of public art throughout the MIT campus. Under her leadership, the List organized presentations for two international art biennials, including artist Paul Pfeiffer’s project as the U.S. representative for the 9th Cairo Biennial in 2003; and artist Fred Wilson’s exhibition at the U.S. Pavilion of the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003. Most recently, Jane was invited to be the editor for the catalogue for artist Joan Jonas’s upcoming exhibition for the U.S. Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale and provided invaluable guidance and support.
